Position Overview

The Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full-time permanent pastor who is called by God and equipped to effectively preach and teach His Word. The ideal candidate should possess the biblical and spiritual qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Applicants must be born-again, baptized believers in Jesus Christ, capable of fulfilling the spiritual needs of the congregation through visitations, prayer, conducting weddings, funerals, and administering the Ordinances of the Church.

Our church is looking for a visionary leader with strong skills to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and execute the Great Commission, with the goal of increasing the Kingdom of God. The permanent pastor should demonstrate the ability to teach sound Baptist doctrine, engage in pastoral care, and direct Christian growth and development.

About Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church

Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church is located in Fayetteville, in the Sandhills region of Southeast North Carolina. Fayetteville is known for its cultural diversity and strong military presence. Established in 1860, Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church is one of the oldest African American churches in North Carolina, with a rich history spanning 165 years. The church currently has an active membership of 350 and supports approximately 28 ministries.

Permanent Pastor Qualifications

  • Licensed and ordained minister in the Baptist faith and doctrine, in good standing.
  • Minimum of five years experience as a senior pastor of a Christian church. (Please note that experience as an assistant pastor, executive pastor, youth pastor, children’s pastor, or as the leader of a ministry within the church will not be considered toward this requirement.)
  • Ability to provide leadership to the pastoral staff.
  • Master’s degree in divinity (Doctorate preferred).
  • Proven ability to teach and preach the Word effectively.
  • Familiarity with Baptist doctrine and the church’s mission.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across all ages and genders.
  • Demonstrates awareness of church finances and responsibilities.
  • Strong orientation toward pastoral care and growth.

 

Application Submission Instructions

Each applicant must submit the following:

  • Current resume.
  • Copies of license, ordination certificate, degrees, and any additional certifications.
  • Proof of your appointment and length of service as a senior pastor is required. For example, an official letter on church letterhead from the church secretary or other authorized individual. 
  • Three letters of recommendation are required. Each letter must be from someone who has knowledge of your role as a senior pastor within the last 5 years. Family members and references based on relationships outside the church are not permitted. Please note that two reference letters must be submitted as required:
  1. One letter must be from an officer/leader in the church (i.e. officer/minister, elder, deacon, trustee, etc.)
  2. A second letter must be from someone you reported to or were accountable to during your tenure as senior pastor. (i.e. your pastor or someone representing the leadership from your denomination)
  3. All three letters must include the cell number, email address, and the title of the individual writing the letter on your behalf. In addition, the letter must state how long the reference has known you in your role as senior pastor.
  • Link to a recent sermon and biblical teaching (YouTube, Facebook, website, or podcast).

Please note that if all of the required documents are not received, post marked, or emailed by the closing date of the announcement, your application will be incomplete, and you will not be considered for the position. All documents must be included in the same package and submitted at the same time. No partial application packages will be accepted, and we will not inform you prior to the closing date whether you have submitted all the required documents.
